The echoes of arenas, the dull sprawls of fields — traditional sports offer no appeal. You crave none of their rules or regulations; you desire no team formalities. Instead you seek the wonders of nature: choosing to gain essential exercise among the trees.

Such a goal is lofty. It can also prove difficult, however, when the weather turns fickle — offering a scattering of rain and hints of winter air. The forecast swears that storms will appear. And you… decide to still chance an exploration. A hike shouldn’t be too affected, after all. Nature can sustain itself in the wake of a little water.

Established trails, however, often can’t — and you may find yourself greeted by closed parks or reservations.

All would-be hikers must recognize the dangers of weather. Simple storms can wreak havoc on pathways: washing away dirt, uprooting limbs, making boulders too slick or causing bridges to warp. Many parks will therefore shut down when forecasts promise rain, deeming the trails too uncertain. Some will remain open, however, but will absolve themselves of responsibility — leaving adventurers to face the roads alone.

It’s wise to avoid these moments when possible. Hiking is not a sport defined by specific seasons or hours. There are no team schedules to maintain. It can instead be accomplished throughout the entire year. Choosing to ignore weather warnings is therefore a mistake — and one that could potentially cause harm.

The weather dominates nature. This must be accepted: with hikers choosing easier forecasts to enjoy and eliminating complications.

Everyone loves a good day at the lake; the sun, the water and the fun all add up to an awesome day. Add to the mix tubing and the day goes from good to great. Tubing can be fun and exciting, but it can also be very dangerous, especially for the inexperienced. Here are a few rules to follow to make for a safe day:

Rule 1:

Always be sure that everyone on the water is wearing a life vest; this is not disputable. Accidents happen even to the seasoned swimmer. Safety comes first.

Rule 2:

The driver of the boat needs to keep his speed low. For an experienced tuber 25 mph is good. For an inexperienced tuber 10 mph is good.

Rule3:

Always have a spotter in the boat to watch the tuber. If the tuber falls off the driver can then circle back to pick them up.

Rule 4:

Teach your tubers to use signals to inform the spotter that they are fine when falling off the tube.

Rule 5:

Stay away from other boats while towing a tuber. Accidents have happened where a tuber has been pulled into the propellers of another boat. It is often difficult to see someone in a wake if you do not know they are there.

Rule 6:

Make sure that everyone on the water applies suntan lotion. The reflection of the sun off the water can cause very bad burns.

Tubing can be fun for everyone. Take a few precautions and be safe while enjoying a great day tubing at the lake.

When starting an exercise routine, it is important to select comfortable workout clothing that fits properly and provides support during activity. It is vital to consider crucial features of exercise clothing to get the most out of a workout. Here are necessary workout clothing dos and don’ts:

Dos

Do create a list of needed workout clothes and identify the desired styles, fit and material.

Do focus on comfort and form fitting, but avoid clothing that is too tight, especially in areas susceptible to chafing such as shoulders, neck, arms, ankles, and waist.

Do select stylish and comfortable options, such as Nike Athletic Clothing.

Do wash exercise clothes separately in cold water on the delicate cycle and line dry to prevent shrinking and extend the life of the garment. It is also important to follow the care instructions on particular items because some brands recommend specific washing instructions.

Don’ts

Don’t wear dark clothing if you are exercising outside in warm weather. Dark colors absorb the sunlight quicker and can result in overheating.

Don’t wear big bulky socks with extra fabric because it can lead to discomfort and blisters.

Don’t neglect footwear and be sure to select a pair of shoes that fit properly and are right for the particular exercise routine.

Don’t assume all exercise clothing is created equal; there are various types of workout clothing for different exercise routines.

Exercise clothing is a major influence on the success of a fitness routine. It is essential to choose the right types and brands that meet your specific needs and fitness goals.

Fishing is one of the most ideal of pastimes. It’s simple, tranquil, requires a less than exorbitant amount of equipment, and is often free once the gear has been purchased. Fishing is sport that’s available to virtually anyone at anytime in their life. It doesn’t require extreme fitness or training, nor does one need to be incredibly experienced. Young and old alike are able to cast a rod and reel, and catch a fish. The only qualifier is that there need be a lake, pond, or river somewhere nearby! Fortunately, bodies of water are common on the majority of the planet’s surface.

To get started in fishing, simply visit a quality sporting goods store. Most have the basics that you’ll need to get started. Those are simply: a rod, reel, fishing hooks, and bait. Bait as the word implies, is what attracts the fish, and here’s where the art of fishing comes in. It’s hard to know precisely what fish are biting at what point in the day at what body of water. That’s why a lot of top fishermen will bring a selection of lures to attract fish. If one type isn’t working, after a while, a savvy fisherman will change out the lure in hopes of attracting the fish they’re interested in.

Aside from the bait, the rest is up to your personal preference. Do you like a stiff fishing rod, that will let you merely haul a caught fish into shore? Or do your like the struggle of the catch, such that a thin, almost flimsy appearing rod will provide the sport in your outing? These are largely personal preferences.

For the past 2 years, my husband is staying in Portugal for his project work and when I got 10 days vacation to join my husband there, I booked my air tickets immediately. The place where he stays is far from the city, and as he could not come to pick me, I decided to take a rental car to reach his place and inquired for cheap and best car rental via online. I came across many car rental services but got convinced with carrentals.de because their terms and conditions were crisp and clear.

I filled the first application page with my name, age and license details and then proceeded to the next page where I was asked to choose the car from a list of different makes and sizes. I picked a mini car and paid for insurance coverage and local taxes too. The GPS system and full air-condition facility too enticed me and I paid for that too which made my drive comfortable and quick. The booking process was smooth and when I reached the airport, my car was waiting outside and I had a memorable, pleasant and comfortable vacation in Portugal.

I am very much happy to share my wonderful moments with my cousins in these holidays. We had really a great time. We had booked a car from a mieteautos company which was very nice in providing awesome facilities to us which were required for us. They had taken us to a nice hotel for accommodation and then we had taken a room and then we had taken rest for that first day and started to visit places from the next day.

They used to pick us at time and the driver which we had was very friendly he used to explain us about the places very briefly and used to be very nice with us.

All of my cousins also liked the facilities of this company and I hope you people will get great responses form the customers. I really appreciate the job of your people and thanks a lot for the awesome services.

We all had enjoyed a lot! Made fun! Visited awesome places, and done many things within whole week. I liked the food of Italy and the wonderful places in Italy were less to explain in words. Thanks a lot!

Hunting is killing of any wildlife animal. It can be for food or it can be taken as a recreational activity. In ancient days hunting was a necessity for survival and people killed animal primarily for food. However, hunting has also evolved as a recreational activity. Though many wild life saving organizations have condemned hunting of wildlife animals, hunting of animals is still popular in many countries. There are also legal and illegal hunting. Legal hunting is hunting animals which are permitted and is allowed in specific places. However, illegal hunting is hunting animals for trade and selling it for medicinal or any other purpose.

Almost all countries have strict laws concerning illegal hunting. Recreational hunting is also allowed for specified species. Hunting of rare species of animals is prohibited and the person has to pay heavy fine or imprisonment according to the law of that country. Illegal hunting happens across the world especially with rare wild animals. Hunting elephants for their ivory is common in many countries. Ivory is quite expensive and has a huge market worldwide. Ivory is used to make different handcrafts and is popular among tourists. So many elephants are hunted for this purpose though there are strict laws concerning elephant hunting.

Tiger hunting is also popular and many countries have come out with laws concerning the same. Since tiger’s have become less in numbers, an effort has been taken to preserve them. However, many hunters, still hunt tigers for pleasure. There have been many campaigns and measures taken by forest department to preserve wildlife. Stringent laws and execution of the same can only help in preventing hunting of rare species.

Fishing industry can be divided into two sectors commercial and recreational. Commercial fishing can be described as catching of fishes for the purpose of sale. It can comprise of either companies or individuals who are involved in such activities. It involves a series of process after catching the fish, which are processing, proper storing, transporting and then finally it, reaches customers for sale. Recreational fishing involves fishing as a leisure activity and does not involve selling of products.

Many people love fishing as a leisure activity and find it calming to their senses. It’s a way to move away from the stress of every day life. Fishing provides a soothing effect on individuals. Of course, people need lot of patience and technique to catch a fish. For amateurs, it can be adventurous. Especially for children fishing can be exciting and fun to learn. As it does not require much except the basic fishing gear, it can be a low cost activity. Not all places are good for fishing and there are laws which restrict recreational fishing in many places.

Recreational fishing does not involve selling of fishes and it’s more for personal use or satisfaction. Usually, men are more interested in such activity and find it challenging. However, it’s not restricted to men alone and many women also are good at fishing. It can be good time to bond with children as fathers teach their children how to fish. Very few destination offers fishing as a recreational activity. Some of the common fish sought after are tuna, marlin and mackerel. It can also be fun cooking the fresh fish caught and make for a good family picnic.

It’s fun to go hiking in a group or with family or friends but people do undertake hiking alone.

Hiking can be undertaken as a single day recreation or multi-day hiking. Usually people prefer a single day hiking as they can spend the day in natural surroundings and come back before it gets dark. There are many hiking trails which people can undertake. However, if it’s unknown area, its better to go with people who know the route or with a guide as it’s possible to get lost in the forest or the hill area. Recent studies suggest that hiking is good for health and many people flock to go for hiking. Hiking is good as it requires a good walk and you are venturing into natural surroundings which have almost zero pollution levels.

Hiking can also be hazardous if proper precautions are not taken. Proper equipment and attire should be worn. Hikers need to carry light weight bags usually containing food, water and first aid kit. Hikers should wear comfortable hiking boots. They should carry insect repellent, flash lights and whatever is required to stay overnight in case of emergency if they get lost. However, with a proper guide it can be fun to go hiking in a group. Proper safety measures need to be followed as it can cause injury to a person.

Boating is a fun filled recreational activity and many people prefer to be on the sea. There are also other activities which can be undertaken while boating such as, fishing, parasailing, and diving among others. There are different types of boats available, for example power boats, sail boats which might involve rowing or paddling. Which ever type of boat a person uses, they should enjoy the sea and its fun to go boating in a group. If a person owns a boat, he or she should have proper licenses and have proper storage place for their boats and learn to sail.

There are also boats available for hire for people interested in boating. They can choose the type of boat they want to hire. If they do not know boating, they can also hire a person to sail a boat. In most places, flotation device might not be necessary but in some places they insist on tourists wearing one. It’s especially good for people who do not know swimming.

Boat racing is another adventure sport which is famous in many countries. It might not be a regular sport which is played through out the year but can be seasonal. It attracts lots of tourists and local crowd. Boating per se is very exciting and to watch such events is fun for tourists. As any other sport, boating also requires some safety measures. For example everyone on board should either wear personal flotation device or keep it in handy in the boat. Fire extinguishers, some sort of alarm system, first-aid kits, a radio or mobile phone to communicate any emergency situation is a must is a boat.

Sports have always been popular with all age groups as a favorite pass time or hobby. Different countries have different sports as their signature and are popular for it. For example, cricket and hockey draws more audience in India. However, in the United States, people watch football, baseball and basket ball and they do not play cricket in an international level. So each country has different sports as their forte. However, recent times have seen a change in this equation. With media exposure, people across world have exposure to other sports and all kinds of sports is getting recognition which was not so couple of decades back.

Football as a sport is becoming popular among youngsters and the world cup football received huge audience across different countries. Moreover, as there has been an increase in the number of sports channels across countries, sports lovers have access to watch their favorite sports throughout the year. There has been an increase in sports tournaments as well and these events are telecasted live in sports channels.

Due to media exposure, many sports which did not get much publicity have received fame now. This has encouraged many youngsters to take up sports as their career. Previously many sports did not receive due recognition and there was not much money to take it up as a career. However, now-a-days, most of the countries encourage sports and have good training available for youngsters to take it up as a career. Though competition has become stiff, a talented sportsman can always get an entry into country teams and enter international events. Countries also recognize such sportsman and honor them in their own way which encourages youngsters to take up sports as a career. Families also encourage their children if they are talented to take up sports as an option.

There are plenty of people who love sports betting, but for everyone who loves it, there are plenty who don’t feel like it’s the activity for them. Some people avoid betting because they think that sports’ betting doesn’t cater to the sports they love. Sure, this is understandable, as most of the betting sites seem to focus their advertising to the most popular games. It’s common to hear ads about football bets, basketball bets and pride fighting, but you rarely hear about the water sports that so many people love.

The good news is that sports betting is something that everyone can participate in, regardless of the water sport you might be interested in. For instance there are bets every year on different surfing events. Odds are created and winners are paid out based on the money they put in.

There are also events for those who love boating. Plenty of people out there don’t know about the boat racing events that draw big money from the gambling world. While it only comes around once every four years, the Olympics are another major sporting event that you can place bets on. Swimming is another popular water sport for betting, especially during the summer.

In addition to thinking that betting on sports is only for land-locked sports, many people think placing a wager is difficult. This just isn’t true. Online sportsbooks let you place bets on almost any sport. They know that betting on sports is a time-honored tradition that existed well before the new world did.

Placing a wager on an event is a pastime that has carried on through generations. Gambling on sports is fun, as long as it is done in a responsible way. Betting on games is a fun way to spend a weekend and maybe make a little bit of money in the process. If you’re ready to have a good time, then get online and start betting today.

Lakes and ponds for generations have been one of the most important sources of water. However, the problem with lake water is that very often the water is unclean and hence unfit for drinking. Though lake water can be used for washing clothes, dishes, vehicles and even animals, drinking lake water as it is fraught with risk and could lead to diseases and water borne infections.

Though there is enough water in many of our lakes it is unfit for drinking unless it is filtered and made ready for drinking. Previously, filtering lake water used to very difficult, cumbersome and cost prohibitive. However, with the advancement of technology this problem has been solved to a great extent and today there are many small sized water filters which could go a long way in removing contaminants from water and make it fit for drinking and cooking. Buying the right kind of filter would go a long way in solving your drinking water problem. But before buying a filter, you should undertake a study of the water and find out its quality. You should be able to have a report in hand which details out the kind of contaminants that the lake water has. Once these details are available with you, you could go ahead and get the right kind of filter which can remove all these contaminated elements and substances.

Another way you can make lake water more potable is to reduce the level of contaminants by joining together as a group and preventing pollution and contamination. Most of the pollutant in the lakes are man-made including plastics, wastes and untreated effluent wastes. So if we as a group of responsible citizens are able to build a movement and stop the inflow of harmful chemicals and pollutants into the lakes, we could make better use of our lakes, eventually for our benefit.

We as human beings have made great strides in science and technology and we as human race can proudly claim ourselves to be a “technology era”, so to speak. While this is true and we need to proud of our achievements in the field of science and technology, many of us do not realize that this very science and technology has made us lazier persons and has provided us with little of no chance undertaking the basic physical exercise needed for the body to be in shape.

Under such circumstances, if we are really keen on maintaining a sound body and mind, we should engage ourselves in some sort of sporting activity or else we could be damaging our bodies beyond a state of repair. In the quest for a better material life using science and technology, many of us overlook the need to exercise and be in shape. So sports plays a big role in keeping our body and mind fit. Engaging in a good sports activity at least one hour per day is extremely essential important if we are keep our body fit. If we avoid doing this, we are sure to face health challenges arising out of a sedentary life style and the complaints could range from being obese to having various life style related diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol, heart problems, renal problems etc.

Undertaking sporting activities could be pleasure and could be done at any time of the day. You could do it early in the morning or could be a part of it in the evening after finishing your day’s chores. Exercise has to be strenuous for the body to burn fat. Remember your heart rate should be in the range of 120 to 140 beats per minute to get the optimum results. Below this rate of beats, no exercise is going to work.

Do you find yourself just not getting enough bottom time? All you really want to do is slip on the scuba suit and be gone? Well, maybe you should consider finding a career that requires your expertise in diving! There are many such careers. You can be involved in either recreational diving or commercial diving in many different capacities.

The recreational jobs mainly deal with being an instructor or dive master but can be found anywhere there is warm water. You might even find those adventurous enough to try colder climates. You might also find positions with cruises that travel into prime diving waters. Another avenue to the recreational diving would be as a professional photographer. You can find advanced training for this at almost any college or university.

Commercial diving takes you into so many different fields it is hard to name them all. You could work anywhere from zoos to police departments. Police departments?; you may ask, yes even there. They need investigators at such scenes and expert divers have just what it takes. Ocean engineers need to have excellent diving skills to take them where they need to be. Marine sciences obviously would be a path for avid divers. The Web has sites where you can revel in the possibilities.

As you can imagine, most of these will take advanced education after high school, the good news is that most of the training you need can be had online as well as through traditional universities. Online degrees are a great way to be able to travel to different areas for diving, but still keep up on your studies.

If you find yourself always going to the lake or ocean for vacation, try making it a career and get paid to dive!

Hiking is one of the most thrilling and exciting of all adventure sports and there can be fewer sports to compare it when it comes to visiting new places and discovering new things in life. But again like many other adventure sports, hiking is also a risk-laden sports activity unless certain basic safety measure are not in place.

If you are going on a long hike, always remember the basic rule. Carry plenty of water. Hiking is a wear tiring sports and could easily lead to dehydration if you are not carrying enough water. Finding water on the way is a possibility, but leaving things to possibilities should be avoided to a big extent when it comes to hiking. So it is best to be prepared with adequate quantities of water. The next important point to be kept in mind is to always be sure to carry a first aid kit. Many people leave this behind a pay a heavy price later due to accidents and injuries where the first thing that would help them would a first aid help. Another important rule that needs to be followed while you are hiking is to avoid hiking alone. Traveling alone and engaging in hiking is akin to hurtling fast towards danger and that too knowingly. Hiking though an exciting adventure sport is at times highly unpredictable and so traveling alone could be inviting trouble for you.

Before you actually get into the hiking activity it would be much better if you could map the whole area which are planning to cover by your hiking and leave a few copies with each member of the team. This way you could be able to identify each other in case there is a need to do so, or else you could be walking down a blind alley. Wearing hiking boots is extremely essential to protect you from the wear and tear to your foot which is quite natural when you in a hiking activity. Ordinary shoes, sandals, and other cheaper materials will not work and hence do not try to cut corners here.

Hunting is one of the oldest sports which has stood the test of time. Though civilization has grown and lot of newer and exciting sporting activities have come, hunting still continues to be the favorite sports for many persons. In fact even in today’s world of internet and computers, hunting still continues to occupy the pride of place as far as adventure sports are concerned. Though it is an exciting and fun-filled sports activity, it could turn out to be dangerous and even a killer if proper precautions are not taken.

The basic thing that you should be knowing as a reasonably good hunter is to walk properly while holding a gun. The muzzle of the gun should always be pointing away from you or your companions to avoid accidents which may be caused by pressing the trigger unintentionally. Before leaving for a hunting expedition make sure that your preparations are full and to the extent fool proof. Never leave anything to chance because you may not get a second chance at all. Further, to be on the safer side, it would always be very useful for you to leave the details of your itinerary to some members of your family, in case an emergency arises.

See that the weapon you are carrying is working fine and ensure that you are carrying the right amount of bullets needed for the entire expedition. Never forget your cell-phone and your first aid kit. These could be life savers in a hostile and dangerous environment. Your first aid kit amongst other things should most certainly contain a snake-bite kit because forests are known to be infested with a variety of snacks some of which could be highly lethal and poisonous. Carrying a cell phone makes sense even if you have a problem of signals not reaching it. You can always send a message to your near and dear ones which will at least help you to be in touch.

Wear a neon or orange headgear of handkerchief on your head to avoid hitting your friends and companions by mistake.

If you are a sports enthusiast and one who likes to engage in adventure sports, you are most likely to be a big fan of boating. Boating is a great adventure sports and it could be lot of fun and excitement. It would give you a chance to discover new and exotic places. However, boating could also be dangerous and life-threatening, if you do not take the necessary steps required to take part in what could be called “Safe Boating”.

The first and foremost rule when you are boating is that you should not be doing so under the influence of alcohol. As driving and drinking do not go together, so do boating and drinking. Boating under the influence of alcohol could be the perfect recipe for disaster and should be avoided at all costs. Some people who go for boating try to act smart and flaunt around their heroism by not wearing the right kind of safety gears. This is not being smart but being plain and simple foolish to say the least. Remember, boating could be all smooth sailing but one big wave or a rough bout of weather could turn things topsy turvy. Hence wearing the right gear and carrying the necessary safety and rescue equipment could save your life in the mid-waters. Do not get into a boating expedition if you are not trained to boat safely and properly. It is always advisable to undergo a small bit of training before you actually get into expedition boating. Even if you are a reasonably good hand in boating, it would make better sense to boat in a safe zone, where escape could be easier in case of an emergency. Before getting into the river or sea, check that all your equipment and materials are in place and are in working order. See that the fuel and oil levels are at the optimum level and the engines are working properly. The next golden rule for safe boating is to ensure that you do not boat alone, even if you are a skilled boater.

Fishing is perhaps one of the best past times for people who love being near nature and spending hours together by the riverside of seaside. Rivers are perhaps the best sources for catching fish and there are some tips which need to be followed for having a reasonably good catch of fishes in river fishing. Fishing during the summer season in rivers could be a relatively easy task when compared to fishing during the freezing winter climate. However, during winter too you can have reasonably satisfactory catch of fish provided you follow some basic do’s and don’ts.

If you are really keen a serious about a decent catch of fish during winter the first and foremost thing that you should be doing is to identify the areas or locations where fish could be found in such hazardous climate. As a fish catcher you should know that during summer seasons, fishes are found all over the place in almost every river in search of food, for mating and for laying eggs. However, during the winter season the fishes tend to pool together and congregate themselves in some deep areas of the river where the temperature is relatively warm compared to the surface which could be freezing and covered with ice and snow. So it would be naïve on your part to look for fishes in the same place where you might have a good catch during the summer.

There are some more important tips that you should consider while fishing during the cold seasons especially in the freezing winter. The next sentence might look a bit obvious but it is nonetheless important. You should have your body fully covered with suitable clothing and particularly your hand should be well protected. The next important thing to consider is the size of bait. In cold seasons fishes usually have reduced metabolism rates and hence they would not be interested in big baits. Hence reducing the size of baits during this period would enhance your chances of a good catch. Remember fishes are cold blooded creatures.

It’s difficult to say where the hottest places are for surfing because it can be a tad subjective. But, for the waves, accommodations and beauty, the following would have to be close to top of any surfer’s wish list.

Along the Gold Coast in Australia they have some of the best waves and beaches in the world – what every surfer wants! Known for its sunny subtropical climate and popular surfing beaches, the Gold Coast City is located nearby. The coast itself stretches out for 70 kilometers and boasts four phenomenal point breaks: Narrowneck, Mermaid beach, the Spit and Main Beach. This is surfers’ paradise! For those who want the whole package, try out Snapper Rocks Superbank, and Kirra and South Stradbroke Island – “Straddie.”

You’ll find the most incredibly consistent stretch of waves along a chain of seventy islands located off the coast of Sumatra called the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia. Siberut, North Pagi, South Pagi and Sipora – the four biggest islands keep the biggest swells from crashing into the mainland. Wave-hunters from around the world flock here for the most exquisite surfing conditions ever dreamed of. You can go between March and October, but the biggest waves hit from June to September. Check out Bankvaults for a good time, but if you’re less experienced better stick with Gilligan’s.

Not to be left behind is Jeffreys Bay, located in South Africa an hour outside of Port Elizabeth. Possibly the most famous surfing destinations ever! This is particularly true in the winter – June through August – when surfers come to ride beaches like Boneyards, Point Albatross and Kitchen Windows.

Jeffreys Bay isn’t just famous for those amazing swells either, but boasts the blue flag beaches where the annual Billabong Pro WCT surfing event takes place every July.

Often called “Surfing’s ginger haired cousin”, Windsurfing is a popular beach diversion. Surfers don’t give the sport that much respect since the board is attached to a sail to aid you along the way. What they obviously don’t know is how hard it is to control one. The wind has to be just right to truly experience the exhilaration of Windsurfing. The board has to skim the water in order to pick up speed and do any tricks. When the winds reach at least 15 knots, the board starts hydroplaning and creates the desired effect.

Years ago, learning how to windsurf took a long time to teach because there are so many little things to know. Today there are classes all the time to educate you but it’s still an intense study.

First off, a person has to learn the rudimentary of sailing including how to unrig and roll up your sail. This is important as it can also be a self-preservation technique. If you lose the wind, simply roll up the sail and paddle back to shore and safety.

Secondly, you have to be in good physical shape to Windsurf because of the strain it puts on your body. This is why many surfers practise Yoga as it helps develop balance and tightening your core. If you don’t have a good center to stabilize you on the board, injuries are easier to occur.

The proper attire is a wet suit and shoes meant for water. One of the safety measures that need to be watched for starts in shallow waters. Pay attention to your surroundings like broken glass or jutting rocks. In case of falling, cover your head with your hands so as to protect from concussions and be careful not to get your foot caught between the board and rigging.

So hold on, center your core balance, and enjoy the ride!

You have decided to start training for a triathlon, and feel like you have the swim down. You train your swimming on a regular basis, anyway. Now, you find that you have a lot more to do, and a lot more to learn. For example, you may realize that you don’t know anything about triathlon bikes.

These bikes are designed specifically for a triathlon race. There are a few subtle differences between a bike that is made for a triathlon and any other type of bike. Triathlon bikes are shaped specifically to be aerodynamic, so that they move smoother for the race. Everything on these bikes is positioned specifically to help shave off milliseconds in a race. For example, the angle of the seat tube is slightly steeper than that of a road bike. It is generally about three to five degrees steeper, in fact.

A triathlon bike is also made to help conserve as much energy as possible. When you are competing in a triathlon, you will find that you use your muscles a lot. In fact, while training, you will find that you use muscles you may not have even known you had! Because of this, triathlon bikes are designed to help you use muscles that are not as often used in running, so that you are able to do the marathon run easier. This can help you save time and energy through the triathlon.

Understanding how a triathlon bike works can be difficult. Understanding that every detail of the bike is based in aerodynamics to make the ride as quick and smooth as possible is easy. You already know that shaving off a few precious milliseconds, or even seconds can make or break a race. It is not only this way in swimming, but also in the bike race.

One water adventure that lasts year round for many people is Kayaking. Also referred to as Paddling, it’s often times a solitary trip. Though there are Kayaks that seat two or more individuals, most are one seaters making it a peaceful trip. Just you, a small boat, and the surrounding nature. There are various styles of Kayaks for different uses-fishing, whitewater, open deck, ocean, day trips, or the classic closed deck that protects the lower body from the spray of water.

As with any sport there are safety precautions that must be taken.

Most important for any water event is to wear a life jacket and take a first aid kit. Carry a whistle with you in case of emergency and you need help.

Find out the day’s weather and if there will be any forecast changes.

Have a “float plan”. Leave a note or itinerary of when and where you’re going to people on share are aware of you leaving.

Bring drinking water, at least a gallon if doing a day trip.

Wear bright colors when paddling out-preferably yellow or orange as those can be seen from far distances.

Flotation bags would be a good investment. They are devices put at the front and rear of the Kayak that keep it afloat if it overturns.

A water pump in case of capsize. The device gets the water out of the boat, allowing you to get back in your boat quicker.

It’s also a good idea to take a first aid and rescue class that deals with how to get back in your kayak if the boat overturns. Instructors tell you how to handle the situation, including if you’re injured and can’t lift your body back inside. There are numerous businesses that teach the class or you can find videos online documenting safety measures.

Now that you’re prepared, get out there and paddle away!

Wakeboarding is a medley of three different extreme sports: water skiing, snowboarding, and surfing. The rider holds on to a rope like water skiing, rides a board like snowboarding, and maintain balance and agility like surfing. The premise of it is a boat driver goes at a speed of 20 miles and the rider stays on the outside of the wake. When the rider is ready to do tricks they cut across and jump the wake, thereby going airborne. Adrenaline junkies spend hundreds of dollars on equipment and accessories. Most important are lifejackets and helmets necessary for anyone-beginner to intermediate.

There are numerous facets to the art of the sport. Learning how to wakeboard is like taking a crash course in physics. The success of a run depends on factors like how much width and length of board you need to gain a good amount of height when you jump. That’s not even factoring in the bend or “rocker” of the board, nor the position of the fins underneath. Too far apart and they don’t give good height in a life but too close together and your downfall could be sloppy. Wakeboarding is always done on lakes, mostly because ocean waves are unpredictable and constantly changing.

The sport was created in 1980 by two guys looking for extra excitement. Ever since, men have dominated the sport ever since. As with most sports though, women are slowly working their way in to the sport. If there was any doubt that men started the craze, the terminology in the Wakeboarding world alone would prove that. Names for tricks range from Butter Slide, G-Spot, and Hoochie Glide. On the opposite spectrum, some hand trick names are Chicken Salad, Melon, Roast Beef, and Canadian Bacon.

Sex and Food. Yep, that’s definitely a man’s sport.

Rafting has come a long way since Huckleberry Finn stood on a raft and slowly pushed it down the river with a stick. Now rafting has taken on a new name and style. White Water Rafting is extreme but, through numerous safety measures, has become a vacation treat for families young and old. There are certain features about the sport that are unsafe no matter what. Even guides can’t predict what Mother Nature will throw their way- fallen trees, low head dams, undercut rocks, and sky high waterfalls with steep drops.

There are six “grades” of White Water rafting. Those in group four levels will already know all the risks and safety hazards so these suggestions are more for beginners. Let’s examine the fundamentals necessary for a successful run.

The most important rule is to go with a group and an experienced guide.

Always tell the organizer your plans, specifically the time you want to return. This helps them know when to send help if you don’t come back for any reason.

Don’t lie about your skill level. If it’s your first time, let the guide know. The worst thing would be to say you’re experienced, get into a dangerous situation, and not know what to do.

Being a good swimmer is a plus, but not always a necessity. If you aren’t experienced, inform your guide so they can factor that in to their safety measures.

Always wear safety gear. Most Rafting companies provide free helmets and life vests to customers. Protective shoes are important. Stay away from flip flops and instead wear sneakers, strapped sandals, or water shoes.

As with any rented equipment, check for tags that say it’s certified and approved by the Coast Guard.

Follow these guidelines and you’ll have nothing to worry about except how wet you are about to get!

We’ve all seen the pictures of scuba divers with their thumbs up surrounded by tons of beautiful underwater life. These pictures are one of the reasons people go in droves to beaches and rent the equipment. There are things you don’t see in the pictures that are only taught in the classes. For those paranoid people, like myself, who wonder if you’re fully aware of all the negatives before swimming over 30 feet down to a watery abyss, this article is for you.

The number one key rule instructors teach people before sending them out is to never dive alone! Having a friend with you underwater could be the difference between life and death if something happens. They also use the phrase “Plan your dive and dive your Plan”. Simply put, it means be prepared for your journey down: how far down are you going, how long will you be, and how much air is needed to come back. You can still enjoy yourself, just be careful while doing it. No horseplay either! All you would need is someone to accidentally snag your air hose and pull it out. The repercussions of that are horrific as your ascension must be extremely slow to compensate for the lack of nitrogen in your blood due to the descent. If it does happen, your friend would have to help you to the surface by alternately sharing their air through the mouth piece.

This brings me to another point-always check your equipment! Even if you are a certified diver and this is your 100th dive, you never know if a hose has begun to corrode inside or if something else could be wrong. Definitely check it if you are on vacation and renting because there is no guarantee how long it’s been since the shop updated their equipment.

Don’t forget to breathe slowly as holding your breath can lead to lung damage.

Enjoy your underwater adventure!

Northern Ireland claims one of the largest lakes in Europe- Lough Neagh. The freshwater lake is considered the biggest among the British Isles. Its shoreline touches five of the six counties that make up the Northern country: Antrim, Down, Armagh, Tyrone, and Londonberry. It stretches approximately 151 miles and, though shallow around the margins, reaches a depth of 80 feet. Lough is one of the few lakes so big you cannot see the other side of the shore.

Some locals believe the folklore that a famous Giant created the Lake but the origin is much simpler than that. Lough Neagh was formed years ago when a fracture in the earth’s surface caused the ground to split and water from the River Bann to rush in. Today, the waters of Lough move outward to the river and eventually funnel out in to the sea. The Lake supplies Northern Ireland with the bulk of its water supply. In addition, it’s also used for eel fishing since so many can be found there. Fishermen go out in their boats year round and have a constant supply of food available to sell. The lake never freezes which is a huge draw for visitors from the farther North countries.

There is always something wonderful to see at Lough Neagh any time of the year. The huge variety of birds and wildlife seen in both summer and winter attracts hundreds of people and helps tourism in the surrounding counties flourish. A major event at the lake during winter is the migration of a breed of Swans from Iceland that fly on to Lough Neagh and stay until March. Just to be safe, a local group of volunteers formed a rescue team years back in case of emergencies in and around the water.

No matter when you go, Lough Neagh is an experience not to be missed.

There are numerous types of Water Sports but some of the most entertaining are those done in oceans and lakes.
When the sun comes out, thousands of people pile in their cars and head to the beach. Jet skis and water skis are two things that sell out quickly because of how fun the experience is. The joy of going fast on skis or harnessing the power of the machine a person rides is all part of the beach going experience.
Water skiing originated in Minnesota in 1922 when Ralph Samuelson used two boards for skis and a clothesline for rope. He then began to tour the United States and became known as the first man to ever ride them. Over the years it has evolved and expanded. Water sports enthusiasts can use a wake board instead of skis for an extra challenge.
Jet skiing actually got its title from Kawasaki who bought rights to its manufacturing in 1971. The concept was first thought of in 1968 by Matt Bradley who wanted to make a Bus for the Sea. Now it’s a fun way for two people to race across the water with less chance of injury than standing on a set of boards and holding on to a rope.
Competitions around the world focus on people’s ability to do tricks on the machines such flips and turns.
Today every beach and lake has at least one shop set up to rent them, often times with an instructor going out with them to ensure no harm comes to the tourist riding it. Many people rent because it’s so expensive to own one. Jet ski prices start in the thousands and water skis can run at least three hundred dollars on the low end. That doesn’t even include the accessories needed to ride them.
However you spend time by the water, this pass time is definitely worth trying.

The Caspian Sea is the largest land locked lake in the world and shares its coastline with five different areas: Southern Russia, Northern Iran, Western Kazahkstan and Turkmenistan, and Eastern Azerbaijan. It’s then separated in to Northern, Middle, and Southern regions. The Northern part is very shallow, a mere 16-20 feet deep, as it consists mostly of the Caspian shelf. The Middle is much deeper, plunging to depths of 620 feet and going farther down at the Southern part, reaching 3,300 feet.

This famous body of water has been classified as either a lake or sea because of the different levels of salt in the water. The inflow of water causes the Northern parts to be freshwater while the Southern area has a higher saline level due to the limited flow that spills in the catchment basin. The original inhabitants classified it as a sea because of its saltiness and the sheer vastness of the lake.Though it is surrounded by land, there are over 130 rivers that flow in to the enclosure at any given time.

The two major inlets are the Volga and Ural rivers. Volga constitutes 80 percent of the water entering the Caspian Sea, which now faces an environmental problem because of oil and gas pollution. Caspian Sea has been an untapped source of oil for decades, a fact the US government and the five coastal states that surround it are working to change. Other issues are using it for travel of fishing vessels and transportation of foreign goods. If Caspian becomes labeled a Sea, there are numerous treaties and permits that would need to be filed for foreign vessels to come through. If the label is a Lake, no such permits are needed.

With a value of about $12 trillion in oil, talk about exploiting its depths will continue for a while.

While there are many famous lakes worldwide, the most well-known is Lake Titicaca. Located on the border of Peru and Bolivia, it is the largest lake in South America. Its width is more impressive than its depth, which is only 922 feet. Records show the lake stretches for 50 miles and the length is over twice that at 118 miles. Another fact that cements it as interesting is how high it is above sea level-a whopping 12, 507 feet.

Five major river systems empty in to the lake and twenty smaller streams end there. There are 41 islands on the lake, some of which are heavily populated. Three towns worth visiting are on opposite sides of the lake: Puno, found on the Peruvian side and Challapampa, situated on the Bolivian side. The Isla del Sol is the biggest island on the lake and holds over 180 ruins from the Incan period. This island is supposedly where the first Inca King Manco Capac was born from the sun God, Inti. Manco created the Kingdom of Cusco which began the Inca Empire. Titicaca also contains the island Copacabana, the name later used in the popular song created years ago.

Another set of islands to visit are the Uros isles, consisting entirely of reeds. Due to that fact, they float making it an amazing sight to see when visitors go to Lake Titicaca. On the opposite side of that is Taquile, the bigger island fashioned from the earth. All islands are rich in Incan history and architecture.

Titicaca flourishes due to rainfall and meltdown from the glaciers high in the Andes Mountains. The merging of the 27 smaller inlets in to Titicaca makes the water cold all year long. Tourists go more for the vastness of the lake and the simplistic beauty of the numerous islands scattered across the body of water.

There are over 400 lakes in California but one of the most popular is Lake Tahoe in Northern California. It stretches across the border to Nevada and, at a depth of 1,645 feet, it’s the second deepest freshwater lake in the USA. It was formed about 2 million years ago and got its shape during the ice ages. It’s a popular destination in both Nevada and California, bringing thousands all year round for the snow activities as much as the water ones.

Tahoe has a fascinating history that not many people may know of. It was originally settled by Native Americans almost 10,000 years ago but they soon died out when the silver and logging boom hit. The interesting part that stayed under the radar was the amount of mafia activity that existed there in the 1950s. There are supposedly hundreds of bodies at the bottom of the lake, rumor saying they are almost perfectly preserved because of the depth and freezing water. It wasn’t hard getting victims out there, weighing down their bodies and throwing it over. The water is warm at first but turns frigid at 600 feet. The drastic change in temperature alone causes hypothermia before their lungs take on enough water to drown. Ironically, Tahoe never freezes because the water is in constant motion.

One native of Tahoe said the lake could also be full of Chinese immigrants who were brought over with promises of gaining citizenship after their work building a railroad around the city. Once the work was over, the government officials took them to the middle of the lake, tied the people together and tossed them overboard. Many residents say there will not be concrete evidence because it would implicate the government in a horrific cover up.

Whether the rumors be true or not, the speculation will doubtless continue for years to come.

People love to take their canine companions with them when they travel. And, that includes when they participate in water sports. Even though many dogs, such as Labrador Retrievers, are made for water because of their webbed feet, it doesn’t mean they don’t need help staying afloat or protection from the sun. Dogs are as susceptible to drowning and sunburn as experienced swimmers.

Sadly, some dogs, while incredibly intelligent, aren’t always incredibly smart. They will focus so much on their task of having fun that they can easily succumb to exhaustion. Luckily, there are things we can do to keep our canine companions safe.

Keep your pet hydrated. Dehydration can easily lead to exhaustion, just like people. Keep an eye on her. One way to tell if your dog is overheating is feeling under her arms. Keep Pedialyte or similar electrolyte-containing beverage on hand. It will help keep her hydrated. In a pinch, Gatorade beverages will work, though the taste is often too strong for dogs, and the sugar content is too high.

Buy a personal flotation device. BoatU.S. Foundation for Boating Safety and Clean Water conducted an unscientific test to determine how various PFDs performed on various size dogs (http://www.boatus.com/foundation/findings/findingsdog.htm). PFD size varies from manufacturer to manufacture, so they recommend you take your dog in for a fitting prior to purchase.

Use sunscreen. Just like human, dogs can get sunburned too, particularly on the nose and ears. Doggles and Epi-Pet manufacture products approved by the EPA. Light skinned/light haired dogs with pink noses and ears are particularly susceptible though all dogs can get sunburned. And just like humans, reapply the sunscreen often. The trick would be to keep her from licking the stuff off her nose as soon as it is applied.

Keeping your canine companion safe is simply common sense. Take care of her as you would take care of you.

There is much to learn from canoeing the Black River in Florida with friends. Some are good, some not so good. So, read on. Think about what you learn before your next outing.

Being on the water, you are subject to the sun’s reflection of the river. So the first word to learn is sunscreen. Put it on frequently, head to toe. Don’t be stingy. Getting that golden tan sounds enticing, but sunburns hurt and damage to the skin is irreparable.

The next word to learn is insect repellent. It is a necessity. Sure, you may think that it’ll interfere with your getting a good tan, but there is nothing worse than going home with huge welts on your exposed skin.

Better yet, get a combination. Go Ready is an insect repellant and SPF 30 sunscreen. As mentioned before, don’t be stingy. Sunburn hurts as do insect bites.

Bring clothes, from replacements to a jacket. Depending upon where your river is located, weather can change. The temperature will probably be steady in most states, but in the Rockies temperatures to change very quickly and drastically. It’s been known to go from 80 degrees to freezing with snow in just a couple hours.

Pack a picnic lunch. Canoe trips usually last a day. Fill your cooler with lots of water and healthy snacks. While it is tempting to fill that cooler with cold brews, intoxication is not recommended. Think drinking and driving. You’ll find natural jetties along the trip. Perfect for the occasional break and lunch. Just remember to leave the location the way you found it.

Everything you bring should be packed in water proof bags. Food Savers are great if you have one. The bags are water tight. If you flip the canoe, everything you packed will still stay dry.

For the Ancient Hawaiin people, surfing wasn’t a past time, or a fad taking place in Southern California complete with its own Beach Boy soundtrack, it was an art, a part of their very culture. They called it he’e nalu meaning “wave sliding.” Praying for strength to combat the god of the ocean, ancient Hawaiians beseeched this mystical being, fully appreciating the great power of the water. They even had their priests “kahuna” pray to their gods for great surfing conditions. Before entering the water, the Kahuna helped the upper class surfers of the day in constructing a surfboard, which at the time was considered a spiritual ceremony.

These boards could only be constructed of one of three trees: Koa, ‘ulu, or wiliwili. The ancient surfers would carefully select the right tree, dig it out of the ground and placing fresh fish in the hole to appease their gods. The tree was taken into town where craftsman actually shaped the boards, smoothed and stained them in preparation for sliding on the waves. There were three shapes and lengths that were adhered to when constructing a board: the “olo” a board that had a thick middle and tapered edges. The “kiko’o” was a board between 12 and 18 feet in length and could only be maneuvered by someone with tremendous amount of skill, and the final board the “alaia” which was only 9 feet in length, but required a master to ride.

The upper classes were the ones to master the boards, reserving the best waves and beaches for themselves. The best surfers were also the chiefs and warriors, and surfing only added to the respect they received from others. Lower classes couldn’t surf on the same beaches as those from higher classes, but should they develop great skill on a board they were regarded with great respect just the same.

Years ago, when you went to a lake, all the skiers were wearing swim suits of some kind. Not so today. It is common now to see skiers donning apparel to protect their skin. There are several reasons. One is that the apparel protects the skin from water-borne bacteria that can cause rashes or skin irritation. The other, and possibly the main, reason is that it insulates the body from cooler temperatures.

Types

There are basically three types of apparel wet suits, dry suits and rash guards. All come in varying thicknesses, from 1.5 mm (thin) to 7/5 mm (thick) and are usually made of neoprene. Dry suits come in full length with longs sleeves and legs; wet suits with long, short or no sleeves, and short or long legs; and shorties with short or no sleeves and short legs.

Dry suits have an inner seal that leaves the wearer virtually completely dry. Obviously thinner suits are worn in warm weather and when a lot of flexibility is needed; thicker suits in cool climes. However, on warm days in winter thick suits are desirable as the water will still be cold.

Rash guards are pretty much what they sound like. They are shirts, usually short sleeved or sleeveless, made of nylon or spandex. They are worn as warm days and provide the most flexibility. When light weight gear is desired, rash guard shorts are also available.

Cost

Rash guards, shirts and shorts, can cost as little as $20 each. Wet suits can run several hundred dollars and dry suits over a thousand. The latter is more expensive because they are more insulated.

An Extra Bonus

One last thing wet suits provide – buoyancy. Full length wet suits and dry suits offer buoyancy because of the air trapped between the suit and the body. It is not enough to replace a personal floatation device, but it does provide a bit.

Okay. You bought the boat. Now what? Two of the more common things to do are water skiing and wakeboarding. Both of these sports are towed by a boat and require varying degrees of skill.

Equipment

Skiing requires two skis similar to snow skiing, and just like on snow there are skis for every occasion. Combination skis have wider tips. They are great for all skiers from beginner to those with advanced skills and one can be fitted with a double binding for slalom. Slalom skis are single and are designed differently for each need. Beginners use a wider tip; advanced skiers have a wider tail and beveled edges. Trick skis are short and wide. Skiers who use these need to have intermediate to advanced skills. Jump skies are made to jump ramps. They are wide yet longer than trick skis.

Wakeboarding used a board similar to snowboarding. Skiers use the boat’s wake as a ramp, often riding the wake as a surfer rides a wave. While it sounds a lot like slalom skiing, with slalom, the skier has one foot in front of the other; with wakeboarding, the skier has a sideway stance similar to snowboarding.

What to Wear

All skiers need to wear a personal floatation device (life vest) and a wetsuit or rashguard. While a rashguard sounds daunting, it is simply a garment similar to a wetsuit top made of lighter weight material used in hotter weather. Gloves are optional.

Cost

Aside from the obvious cost of the boat, skis and other equipment can be easily purchased for as little as $450. Combos go for about $100; $1,149 for a slalom ski; and $800 for wakeboards. Bindings can cost $200 to $389 depending on the type of ski used. Gloves are about $50; wetsuits can run a couple hundred to several hundred depending on material and style (shorty or full length); and personal floatation devices will cost less than $100.

Personal water craft, better known as a jet skis, can be compared to motorcycles for water. They have an inboard motor powered by a water jet pump. The rider stands, kneels, or sits. Some models can carry up to three, including the driver. Manufacturers include Yamaha (WaveRunner), Kawasaki (Jet Ski), Bombardier (Sea-Doo), and Honda (AquaTrax). Just like cars, prices for PWCs vary widely. Prices can start from about $7,800 for a single seat model to $17,000 for a three seat model. And, the key word in that sentence is “start”. Don’t want to buy? You can rent one for about $80 to $95 an hour. This includes tax and fuel.

Are They Safe?

Because they can go fast, many think that PWCs are inherently unsafe. But, according to the U.S Coast Guard, PWCs are no more dangerous than any other water craft. Riders are required to wear personal flotation device, wet suit bottom (or something else that provides similar protection), footwear, gloves, and glasses. Operator age limits vary from state to state, but most manufacturers recommend drivers should be no younger than 16.

Learn boat etiquette and the “rules of the road”. This is paramount for operator/passenger safety, especially in busy areas. Check with the Personal Watercraft Industry Association (www.pwia.org) and your state for more information. The PWIA also provides to PWC rental companies a package for renters.

Environmental Impact

Several things can impact the environment. PWCs, like automobiles, are manufactured to minimize emissions as dictated by the EPA. Engine modification is not recommended. Fill fluids before putting the craft in the water to avoid polluting the water.

The Bottom Line

Just like anything else propelled by a gas engine, if you learn how to operate it properly and safely, it can be incredibly fun. Have a care for others on the water and the environment, and then have fun.

Tubing down the river is one of the most fun water sports out there. The best part about tubing is that anyone can do it! You do not need any special equipment or particular skill to enjoy this sport. All you need is a tube and a life jacket. It is also cheap and fairly safe for the environment. You are not leaving a huge environmental footprint when you decide to tube down a river. Here we check out some of the best rivers to go tubing. See for yourself why tubing is so popular.

1.	If you are on the West coast, try tubing the Truckee River in Northern California. The Truckee River is found between Tahoe City and Alpine Meadows.

2.	Stay on the West coast, and northern California for that matter, and head out on the Lower American River. This river flows through Sacramento, so you will get some incredible views of the city.

3.	Colorado has some of the greatest rivers in the world. Tampa River in Steamboat Springs is a very calm river that is perfect for tubing. Many of the rivers in this area have great rapids that would not be very safe for a person on a tube. But the Yampa River is perfect for your adventure.

4.	If gorgeous scenery is what you are after, then you must go down the Delaware River in the New York-New Jersey area. The river is easily accessible and will take you through the beautiful parts of the East coast.

Tubing is a lot of fun. There are plenty of tubing companies around that will help you get outfitted to head down your favorite river. Try one of our favorite rivers mentioned here, or head out and find a river that you enjoy in your area. The possibilities for fun are simply endless!

Water sports can be a lot of fun for the entire family. Did you know there are actually a wide variety of water sports you can enjoy? Check out our suggestions for fun family water sports you can enjoy all year long.

1.	Boating. You are probably already aware of this option, but boating is a very popular and fun activity. Take the family out on the lake in your boat for the day to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

2.	River rafting. Float in a tube down your local river. Always wear a life jacket and be sure to go when the river isn’t too high (like in early spring) or too fast. If you are taking small children with you, be sure to take them on a tube with an adult.

3.	Canoeing. Taking a canoe out is also a fun water sport. Two or three people can paddle out and around your favorite lake, getting some exercise, while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

4.	Fishing. If you don’t want to actually get out on the water, try fishing from the shore. You can find a quiet spot and cast your rod in for the catch of the day.

5.	Water skiing. Another popular water sport is water skiing. Hook a tow rope up to the back of the boat and you can sail through the water on skis. Or, you could even hook a water tube up to the rope for some fun.

Water sports are some of the most popular family activities around. When the weather is hot and you need to cool down, head to your favorite lake and enjoy some of the activities we suggest here. You’ll have a great time being outdoors and have some great family bonding time. What are your favorite water sports? Do you agree with our picks?

If you’ve always wanted to learn to water ski, but you aren’t sure how to get started, then you’ve come to the right place. We know how much fun water skiing can really be. The thrill of being out on the open water, being propelled through the lake by a boat, and somehow managing to stay upright is simply exciting. Here are our tips if you are ready to learn to water ski.

1.	Safety first. You absolutely must have a life jacket, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned water skier. You need to be able to stay afloat when you crash into the water. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

2.	Learn how to put on the ski. Most people put the skis on in the water, but if you are a beginner, make sure someone gets in the water with you to put the skis on. You want the skis to be tight, as loose skis will fly off and hurt you when you crash.

3.	Next, you’re going to grab the tow rope on the boat, lie back, and float on the water. You’ll want to relax as the driver of the boat takes the slack out of the rope.

4.	Now, you’re ready to get into position. You will bend your legs and extend your arms out almost completely. Your elbows should be on the outside of your knees. Your skis will be between you and the boat, with the rope between the skis. Your body will be bunched up, kind of like a ball, and your head will be facing the boat.

5.	And, you’re off!

Your first few times up on the skis, you probably won’t get much water time. Staying up on the skis is another lesson in and of itself. First get the position right, and then you can master staying up on the skis.

Have you heard of kiteboarding? If not, then you are missing out on one of the most exciting and exhilarating water sports around! Imagine sailing high above the water, with a board strapped to your feet. The wind is blowing in your hair, the anticipation of hitting the water again is eminent, and your adrenaline is pumping. That’s what kiteboarding is all about.

What is Kiteboarding

Kiteboarding is one of the hottest sports around right now. Kiteboarding is basically a mixture of windsurfing, traditional surfing, and wakeboarding. You have a kite, kind of like a sail, attached to your board and you are propelled through the water, and the air, according to wind speeds. The bigger your kite, the bigger waves you’ll be able to ride. Kiteboarding is a fairly easy sport to learn, at least when you compare it to traditional surfing. Most new riders get on their board in just two or three tries. But that doesn’t mean that kiteboarding isn’t dangerous. You still need to take precautions out on the water and protect yourself.

What Kind of Equipment

If you are ready to try kiteboarding, you’re going to need the right equipment. Of course, you’ll need a board and a kite. But what else will you need? You’ll also need a control bar and a harness. This will help you keep control of your board. Just like with surfing and wakeboarding, you’ll also want a wetsuit or a good swimming suit. It’s also a good idea to wear a helmet. If you are beginning, it’s highly recommended that you wear a helmet.

Kiteboarding is fun and exciting! If you are ready to try a new sport, then kiteboarding may be exactly what you are looking for. Grab a board, a kite, and a helmet, and head out on the water. You’re going to fall in love with kiteboarding!

Windsurfing in Hawaii is every water lover’s dream! While it is true that the weather is near perfect and the waters clear all year round, there are some times that are better than others to windsurf in Hawaii. Below we give you a few tips for making the most of your windsurfing vacation, by going when conditions are just right.

1.	If you want to avoid crowds, stay away from Oahu. Any time of the year, Oahu is full of tourists. The tourists flock to the beach, the waters, the stores, and the restaurants. So, if crowds aren’t your thing, then stay away from Oahu.

2.	The peak season is from mid-December to April. If you decide this is the perfect time to windsurf, you will find great winds, but you’ll also find higher hotel prices and airfares. Peak season sends a lot of visitors to Hawaii, so be sure to make your reservations early.

3.	Because Hawaii has gorgeous weather and great winds year round, you should take your windsurfing vacation during the off-season. You’ll find cheaper hotel prices and you’ll find less crowds as well.

4.	If there is a bad time to travel to Hawaii (and really, there isn’t) then it’s Hurricane Season. You may run into the chance of storms if you come between June and November. While most hurricanes skip over Hawaii, when a storm does hit, it’s a pretty big one. If you don’t want to take the chance, then avoid hurricane season.

Hawaii is the ideal place to wind surf. With fabulous weather, beautiful beaches, and crystal clear water, any time of the year is a great time to come to Hawaii. It’s time to pack your bags, grab your wetsuit, and book that airplane ticket to Hawaii! It’s time for the windsurfing vacation of a lifetime.

Before you head out on your next hike, make sure you are properly equipped. Nothing can ruin a hike faster than getting out on the trail and realizing you aren’t prepared. Take a look at the essential items you’ll need for your hike. Then, head out on the trail and start using your equipment.

1.	Footwear. The number one most important thing you’ll need when you go out on a hike is good shoes. Your footwear is essential to keeping you safe and enjoying your hike. Good, supportive boots are your best option.

2.	Waterproof clothing. If you are hiking in the mountains or anywhere near water, you’re going to want waterproof clothing. You’ll need clothes that will easily adapt to many different weather circumstances. Your shirt, pants, hat, and shoes should be waterproof.

3.	Trekking poles. If your hike is going to take you on any steep terrain, then you’ll want some good trekking poles. These poles will help you keep your balance and continue to help you keep going up the hill.

4.	Socks. And extra socks at that. If you are going on a long hike, pack along an extra pair of socks. If your feet get wet or if you sweat a lot, you’re going to be much more comfortable if you have a clean, dry pair of socks on.

5.	Map and compass. The last thing you want on your hike is to get lost. That’s why you need a reliable map and compass. Even if you think you know your way, take a map and compass with you.

6.	Water. You may not think of water as equipment, but you’ll absolutely need to drink plenty of water on your hike. Keep yourself hydrated to avoid any unnecessary injuries or sickness.

Make a list, check it twice, and then get the equipment you need for your next hike.

Here we offer the best places in the United States to hunt for some common, and not so common, animals. Check out our selection and see if you agree with our choices.

1.	If deer is your animal of choice, then it’s off to Calvert Hill. You’ll find Calvert Hill in Pike County, Illinois. The area is best known for its white tail deer.

2.	The most dedicated of hunters dream of hunting in Alaska. You’ll find all kinds of animals to hunt in Alaska, but if it’s bears you are looking for, then you need to go to Unit 17-19 in Western Alaska. You can hunt brown and grizzly hears here in a very secluded and quiet section of Alaska. In fact, if you want to hunt here, you’re going to need to be flown in. Bear hunting season lasts for eight months here.

3.	Are turkey’s on your list? If so, then head over to Nucla, Colorado. Nucla is the best place to hunt for turkeys. The Merriam turkey calls Nucla home.

4.	Montana is another one of the hunter’s paradises. West Yaak, Montana is definitely the place to be if you are hunting moose. The dense forests are filled with moose.

5.	If you want to live on the edge, then hunt cougars. You can find plenty of cougars on Monroe Mountain in Utah. Cougars are a protected animal in Utah, so you’ll have to get a tag if you want to hunt cougars here.

Any serious hunter wants to hunt at least once in his life in Alaska. With the beautiful scenery and the myriad of animals, Alaska is every hunter’s paradise. Below we discuss the best places to hunt in Alaska, no matter what kind of animal you are ready to hunt.

1.	Southeast Alaska is a great place to hunt for big game. Here you’ll find black-tailed deer, brown bears, black bears, and even goats. The unique geography and climate make this area of Alaska a great place to hunt. You’ll find deer on Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof islands. Price of Wales and the islands nearby are the best places for black bears. You’ll find goats in the coast mountains.

2.	Southcentral Alaska is where you’ll go if you are looking for deer, brown bear, grizzlies, moose, and wolves. The varied climates make this area a very popular place to hunt. You’ll find everything from wet to dry inland here.

3.	Moose and caribou are most abundant in the Interior area of Alaska. This is dry country, so you’ll find treeless tundra and many rivers flowing into the Bering Sea and the Arctic Ocean. Caribou are abundant here. They roam in herds, so you’re likely to find many at one time. You can also hunt black bears and grizzly bears in this region as well. However, the bear populations in this area of Alaska aren’t as abundant as they are in the coastal regions.

Alaska is every hunter’s dream. If you’ve always wanted to hunt in the wilderness of Alaska, then now may be your time. Think about the type of animals you want to hunt and then choose the best location based on what you want to accomplish. No matter where you head out to hunt in Alaska, you’re are sure to find gorgeous scenery and plenty of wildlife.

Congratulations! You’ve figured out how to get up on the water skis. Now, it’s time to learn how to stay up! Staying upright on water skis is not an easy task, especially for a beginner. Sure, some people have beginner’s luck and tend to be pro water skiers on what seems like their first time. But for most of us, it takes practice and some skill to actually master water skiing. Take a look at some of our tips for staying up on your water skis.

1.	You’ll want to keep your knees bent. Do not straighten your legs as you start to ski. Bent knees act as a natural shock absorber.

2.	Try to keep your back straight. With your back straight and your knees bent, you’ll be in a relaxed position. This will help you with your balance.

3.	Extend your arms. In fact, you’ll want to extend your arms fully. This will get you slack on the rope and give you enough room to pull your arms in when you need to. In the beginning, you’ll want to keep your arms close to your chest’ try to avoid this tendency and extend your arms.

4.	Center your weight on both skis. This will especially help you if you want to go straight. You switch your weight to different skis when you want to turn. In the beginning, stick to going straight as much as possible.

5.	Keep your skis together. You’ll want to keep your skis about a shoulder width apart. Any more than this and you may end up doing the splits on the water, which isn’t really all that fun.

Mastering the art of water skiing takes tie, but with some practice and following these tips, you’ll look like a professional in no time. The most important thing to remember is to have fun. When you’re having fun, it doesn’t matter how long you stay up!

Boating is a lot of fun. It’ a great way to enjoy time outdoors while getting some fresh air. It’s also fun and exciting! But in order to really have fun on the boat, you need to make sure you are safe. Like the old saying goes, i’s better to be safe than sorry. When you are ready to head out on the lake in your boat, be sure to keep these safety tips in mind.

1.	Always wear a life jacket. This goes for everyone on the boat. Every person on the boat should have a life jacket on that fits well.

2.	Don’t drink alcohol. In fact, it is against the law to drink alcohol while driving a boat in the U.S. You’ll avoid very simple mistakes, as well as the big ones, if you don’t drink while on the boat.

3.	Drink plenty of water. You may not think about drinking water and staying hydrated while you are surrounded by water, but the truth is that you need to drink water, and lots of it, while out on the boat. This is especially true in the summer time when the heat can zap your energy.

4.	Wear sunscreen. Nothing can ruin your fun faster than a really bad sunburn. Wear sunscreen and a hat to shade yourself from the sun. If you plan on being out on the boat all day, take the sunscreen with you and reapply every couple of hours.

5.	The same is true with bug spray. All kinds of bugs will be attracted to you out on the lake. Wear insect repellant to keep the pesky bugs, and their bites, away.

Boating can be a lot of fun, especially when the weather is nice and the sun is shining. Take a few precautions when you are out on the boat and you’ll be in for a great day on the lake.

Water sports are a great way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. You can spend time together as a family or enjoy the peacefulness of nature in solitude. No matter your style, water sports are a great way to get out and experience life. Here are our top choices for the most popular water sports to try.

1.	Water skiing. You can’t do this one alone, but water skiing is by far one of the most popular water sports out there. You’ll need someone with a boat to pull you and some skis. Then, it’s time to sail through the water and feel the thrill that comes from skimming over the lake.

2.	Kayaking. Here’s one you can do alone if you want to be by yourself. Get in a kayak and head down your favorite river or out on your favorite lake. Kayaking takes a lot of upper body strength and is a great work out.

3.	Boating. You don’t need a lot of physical strength to go boating, but it’s very relaxing to be out on the lake with nothing but the wind and nature around you. Be sure to wear a life jacket and keep it safe.

4.	Wind surfing. Wind surfing is quickly becoming very popular. It’s a fairly new sport, but the exciting and exhilaration that come from wind surfing are hard to beat.

5.	Kite boarding. Similar to wind surfing, kite boarding is another thrilling water sport. You’ll need nothing but physical strength and the wind to enjoy this sport.

6.	Swimming. Here’s one we almost always forget, but swimming is the ultimate water sport. You don’t need any special equipment to enjoy swimming in a beautiful lake.

When the warmer weather hits and you have a hankering to get in the great outdoors, keep these water sports in mind.

The United States has some of the most beautiful natural scenery and outdoor spots in the world. Lakes around the country are no exception. You can find some of the most stunning and gorgeous lakes in the world right here in the United States. Here are our top picks for best lakes in the U.S.

1.	No list of lakes would be complete without mentioning the Great Lakes. These five lakes are in the northern United States, mostly in Michigan and Wisconsin. Lake Superior is the deepest and coldest of the lakes.

2.	Fish Lake. You may not have heard of this lake, but Fish Lake in Utah is a great lake to visit. Fish Lake is a beautiful mountain lake located in the central part of the state. It is six miles long and a mile wide. The lake is famous for its Makinaw lake trout. It is not uncommon to catch one of these fish that is 20, 30, or even 40 pounds.

3.	Crater Lake. This lake in Oregon is the deepest lake in the U.S. It measures about 590 feet deep and is fed by falling rain and snow. There is not any inflow or outflow into this lake. Because Crater Lake gets its water from rainfall, it is one of the clearest lakes in the world.

When people think of famous lakes, they often think of Loch Lomond or Lake Lucerne. Perhaps other lakes around the world come to mind when you think of lakes, but the lakes in the United States should not be ignored. Some of the most beautiful lakes in the world can be found in the United States. These three here are just some of our favorites, but there are many others around the country. What are some of your favorite lakes in the United States?

Fishing is a fun and relaxing sport. Many people enjoy fishing purely for the sport, while others like to fish to be outdoors and enjoy the beautiful scenery. No matter your reason for fishing, you should be aware of some of the best spots to fish. Here’s our take on some of the best places to find fish.

1.	For trout fishing, head to Georgia. The Soque River, which makes its way through Habersham County, is a great place for fly fisherman. Beautiful trout are famous in these waters. And if you come in the fall time, you’re sure to witness a spectacular array of autumn leaves. You can check out the Soque River along Georgia Highway 197 which goes from Clarkesville to Lake Burton.

2.	Fishermen dream of fishing in the Florida Keys. If this is your dream, then be sure to head to Islamorada in the Florida Keys. You’ll want to come to Florida in the winter time. When it’s cold in other parts of the country, it’s still the perfect fishing weather here in the Florida Keys. Some fishermen are even known to catch a shark or two in this area.

3.	The Great Lakes is another fabulous spot for fishing. Here, brown trout are the most popular. The fish here are huge! In fact, it’s not uncommon to find a 33 pound fish in Lake Ontario.

4.	Riverhead, New York and the Peconic River is an excellent spot for fishing. The best part of the Peconic River is that it’s virtually unknown to most of the world. Therefore, you can have peace and quiet as you enjoy a day of fishing.

If you want to fish some of the great rivers and lakes in the world, then you definitely need to try out our suggestions here. You’ll soon be catching the big one out there if you head to one of our favorite spots.

If you love the great outdoors, then chances are that you love camping. Going camping is a wonderful hobby and popular way to vacation. Families, singles, and couples alike enjoy camping. If you are one of the many out there who enjoys camping, then check out some of our favorite spots for camping in the United States.

1.	Brookville Lake in Brookville, Indiana. This spot ranks number one on our list for a few reasons. Brookville Lake is 5,260 acres and is in the heart of the historic Whitewater River Valley. The scenery in this part of the country simply cannot be beat.

2.	Mueller State Park in Divide, Colorado is full of excellent camp sites. You can find many secluded spots so you feel like you are getting away from the hassles of the world. There’s also showers and restroom facilities. Be sure to book early, especially if you are coming during a holiday, as Mueller State Park is a very popular destination.

3.	Yosemite National Park. Of course, Yosemite makes our list of great places to camp. You can come here year round, although you’ll likely want to avoid the winter months as it can get cold in Northern California. There’s beautiful hiking trails and incredible views here in Yosemite. Be sure to take a walk among the giant sequoias while you’re in Yosemite.

4.	Wolf Creek Dam Lake in Somerset, Kentucky is another one of our favorite places to camp. You’re right on Lake Cumberland, which is the second largest lake in the Cumberland River system. There’s plenty of places to hike, fish, and enjoy nature here.

Camping is a great way to escape the world and enjoy the great outdoors. The next time you are ready to head out on a camping trip, keep one of our favorite places to camp in mind.
