Hunting is killing of any wildlife animal. It can be for food or it can be taken as a recreational activity. In ancient days hunting was a necessity for survival and people killed animal primarily for food. However, hunting has also evolved as a recreational activity. Though many wild life saving organizations have condemned hunting of wildlife animals, hunting of animals is still popular in many countries. There are also legal and illegal hunting. Legal hunting is hunting animals which are permitted and is allowed in specific places. However, illegal hunting is hunting animals for trade and selling it for medicinal or any other purpose.
Almost all countries have strict laws concerning illegal hunting. Recreational hunting is also allowed for specified species. Hunting of rare species of animals is prohibited and the person has to pay heavy fine or imprisonment according to the law of that country. Illegal hunting happens across the world especially with rare wild animals. Hunting elephants for their ivory is common in many countries. Ivory is quite expensive and has a huge market worldwide. Ivory is used to make different handcrafts and is popular among tourists. So many elephants are hunted for this purpose though there are strict laws concerning elephant hunting.
Tiger hunting is also popular and many countries have come out with laws concerning the same. Since tiger’s have become less in numbers, an effort has been taken to preserve them. However, many hunters, still hunt tigers for pleasure. There have been many campaigns and measures taken by forest department to preserve wildlife. Stringent laws and execution of the same can only help in preventing hunting of rare species.
